Dallas, Texas Therapist Specializing in Tots and Teens, Child Therapy, Play Therapy, Activity Therapy, Parent Support, and Coaching

I’m Diane Boehm, a child and family-centered therapist in Dallas, who specializes in supporting children, teenagers, and families as they navigate life’s everyday challenges. My focus is supporting “tots and teens” (ages 3-7 and 13-18) and their families as they navigate challenging moments in their development.. I offer a safe, connected space to empower positive growth for the entire family system. The therapeutic process is like a puzzle, where we work as a team to fit the pieces together in a meaningful and effective way.

My services:

  • Play Therapy: Inviting and engaging young children to express themselves through their natural modality of play! In play therapy, the ‘toys are a child’s words, and the play is their language’ (Landreth). My goal is to support the children and their family in better understanding themselves through play.
  • Activity Therapy: Empowering teens in building self-awareness and creating their sense of self. By creating a safe space, I support teens in gaining confidence and insight into who they are and how they effectively exist in their world.
  • Parent Support and Coaching: Collaborating with parents through a directive approach to identify current challenges and how to effectively improve systems at home. Through a safe and transparent space, I work with parents to improve their lifestyle and relationship with their children.
  • Educational Consultation: Communicating and consulting with parents, school administration, and school counselors to identify appropriate schools and accommodations to best meet the child’s academic, social, and emotional needs at school.

Whether you’re seeking to:

  • Learn skills to support your child with high-functioning autism
  • Learn the coping strategies and executive functioning skills to manage a learning disorder
  • Explore your symptoms of anxiety and depression to find hope and fulfillment in your life
  • Understand and manage your child’s behavior concerns at home and at school
  • Navigate the educational process – 504, IEP, SPED, School Choice – with the right support

My approach:

Whether you are seeking therapy for your child or searching for parenting support and coaching, I’m here to provide a safe and connected space to support you in achieving your goals. Working from an Adlerian therapeutic framework, I find great joy in the ability to support children and families within the realm of their environment – home, school, community – to best understand their unique self. My directive and empathic approach to therapy allows me to build trust and connection with my clients to activate them towards creating a more intentional life. I have a variety of passionate career endeavors, but my greatest passion is supporting parents in learning more about their children and moving the family system towards positive growth and wellness.

Additional information:

Finding the “right” therapist for you and your situation can feel overwhelming. However, this is an important step toward supporting you, your child, and your family system in the therapeutic process. My hope is that you can learn more about me, as a human and as a therapist, to determine if we are the right fit.

  • I’m a lover of the outdoors! Whether enjoying a long walk in my neighborhood or going on hikes with my family, I love the freedom and energy that nature provides.
  • My family means the world to me. I’m happily married to my college sweetheart and a mother to three active and fun children, who keep me on my toes and humble us as parents.
  • I am a dedicated advocate for children’s mental health and wellness. Before entering private practice, I dedicated almost 10 years to non-profit school systems as a counselor for elementary and high-school students.
  • My professional career started as a Kindergarten teacher, however I quickly realized that my heart was less focused on academic growth and more passionately focused on ensuring the social, emotional, and behavioral well-being of my students.
  • I’m a proud graduate of Texas A&M University (undergraduate degree) & Southern Methodist University (graduate degree). Although, my heart will always be an Aggie!
  • I’m a member of the Texas Counseling Association and the Association for Play Therapy, as well as remain professionally connected to respected mental health professionals in the DFW community.
  • While I’m not seeing clients in private practice, I am a therapeutic consultant at Highland Park United Methodist Church (HPUMC) Day School, where I support teachers and parents in proactively supporting children from an early age.
  • I’m passionate about working collaboratively with local school systems and providing impactful speaking engagements to faculty, staff, and/or students of all ages.
  • I enjoy volunteer work in my community. I currently dedicate my time to serving on the School Advisory Council at my children’s elementary school and serving on the Board of Directors at St. Mary of Carmel Catholic School in Oak Cliff.

My rate is $165 for a 45-minute play therapy session or individual session; $270 for an 80-minute parent consultation or family session. Texas Licensed Professional Counselor (License #: 77084).. Click here to request an appointment.
